Build Club Spotlight: 🟪🔊Lyngo with Tanmay Patel

World-class AI receptionists for healthcare clinics

Welcome to the Build Club Spotlight Series, where we feature some of the most exciting AI startups redefining industries!

This week, we’re chatting to Lyngo, a startup transforming how healthcare clinics handle their day-to-day operations. I recently caught up with co-founder Tanmay Patel to hear how Lyngo came to life.

It all started in 2022 when Tanmay and his co-founder, Cameron Moore, set out to build something impactful using generative AI. After speaking with hundreds of businesses, one problem stood out: the endless hours spent answering phones, especially in healthcare clinics where missed calls often mean missed appointments and lost opportunities.

Determined to solve this pain point, they launched Lyngo—an AI receptionist that not only answers calls but also manages scheduling, cancellations, and inquiries in real time. (You can check out a demo on their website ðŸ˜„)

Lyngo is just getting started, and they’re growing fast! (Raising 2 rounds of funding, with clinics across 4 countries!) If you or someone you know is an engineer excited about AI in Healthcare, they’d love to hear from you—they’re building something that truly makes a difference.

Let’s dive into my conversation with Tanmay!

What’s your background and the story of founding Lyngo?

When we first met in 2022, Cam and I knew we wanted to work together and we were really intrigued by the possibilities of GenAI, but we didn’t just want to create something cool - we wanted to solve real, tangible problems. So, we spoke to hundreds of businesses across different industries to figure out where we could make the biggest impact.

One issue stood out: the overwhelming amount of time spent handling phone calls, which was a pain point for almost every business.

We realised that to make a real difference, we’d have to specialise and create deep integrations that didn’t just mimic but actually took over the tasks a human receptionist would normally handle. Healthcare was an obvious choice - clinics were especially struggling, with one receptionist often trying to juggle two phones and still missing over half the calls. This was a real problem because every missed call could mean a lost appointment or opportunity for the clinic.

That’s when we knew AI could step in. So, we launched Lyngo in early 2023. At the time, though, the Voice AI technology wasn’t quite there - it wasn’t reliable enough, had massive latency issues, and running it cost over $10 a minute. But we were extremely bullish on how fast this technology would advance so even with the challenges, we kept building out our infrastructure until we solved the reliability and cost issues.

What began as one of the world's first AI receptionists for healthcare has grown into something much bigger. We’ve launched in four countries in less than six months, and we’re just getting started on our mission to be the best AI receptionist for healthcare.

How would you describe your product offerings to a new customer and to an AI engineer?

New customer:

Lyngo is like having an AI receptionist that never sleeps. It answers calls instantly and takes care of things like scheduling, rescheduling, cancellations, and general inquiries—all in real-time. It’s integrated directly into your clinic’s management system, so it handles all the admin seamlessly, letting you and your team focus on patient care without worrying about missed calls or paperwork.

AI Engineer:

Lyngo operates using a suite of models designed to manage conversation flow, with the ability to observe, step in, and review each action in real-time. The largest challenge is doing all this while keeping latency under one second, to ensure the conversation feels smooth and natural for the user. Our solution is designed to work efficiently in real-time, integrating seamlessly with healthcare specific PMS systems to capture all of the tasks a human currently does on the phone (and more!). It’s a blend of advanced NLP and operational scaling, all tuned for healthcare.

Answers questions, manages bookings and instantly answers every call 24/7

How has the journey been so far - how has Lyngo evolved?

We started building Lyngo in early 2023, and back then, the tech wasn’t quite there. It was slow, unreliable, and running even a simple test cost us $10-15 per minute. But we knew it would improve, and sure enough, it did. In the last six months, we’ve experienced huge growth—launching in four countries, raising two rounds of funding and expanding our team from just the two of us to four (and we’re hiring our fifth now). We’ve been constantly refining the product, and today, Lyngo is up and running smoothly in clinics across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland. We’re building something that healthcare clinics truly need - an AI receptionist that helps them save time and increases revenue.

Lyngo is built for allied health; whether you're a sole practitioner or a large multi-clinic practice

What advice would you give to aspiring AI builders?

We’re in an incredibly exciting time where AI builders have the opportunity to reshape entire industries. Don’t be afraid to push boundaries, even when the path forward feels unclear - AI is constantly evolving, and today’s challenges could be tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Focus on solving real-world problems, and surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. (That’s where the real magic happens) 🪄🪄

How can our audience help you build and grow Lyngo?

Help us find exceptional engineering talent. We’re focused on building the best team, and we’d love your help! If you are or know any self-driven, talented engineers who are excited about what we are building, we’d love to chat!
